So the first day didn’t go a bad as I thought. I also lucked out by not having to be at work until eight o’ clock so I wasn’t really missing that much sleep. I usually go in at six, so a couple extra hours of sleep was really helpful. I first noticed that my morning routine was broken. Everything from leaving early to get a cup of coffee to not having the cup in my hand while at work. It just felt a little off. The guy I worked with on Wednesday was not my normal co-worker and he wondered why I didn’t want to get coffee. When I informed him about my fourteen day experiment, he thought I was crazy and he went out of his way to tell me how much he was enjoying his quad shot venti mocha. I asked him if he could give up coffee for fourteen days and he told me that he couldn’t and that he wouldn’t even try.
Throughout the day I felt tired and there were multiple occasions where I remembered that normally I would have had a soda, an iced tea or some other kind of caffeinated beverage. Most noticeably was at lunch time when I had water to drink. Now this is not uncommon for me but when I am tired and craving a caffeinated beverage, it sucks to be able to have what you want. I made it through the day feeling tired but I was still able to do my job. I did feel like it was easier for me to fall asleep at night without any caffeine in my system.
My work day on Thursday did not go as smoothly as the day before. First I had to start at five o’ clock in the morning which on principle is not fun. It was difficult to get going, I felt way more tired today and I had a headache for almost the whole day. I had multiple people ask me if everything was ok and other people said I looked noticeably tired. I took Tylenol and Advil throughout the day however my headache persisted and I was never quite able to shake that fatigued feeling. Obviously today I really felt the withdrawal effects. I hope that this feeling does not last more than a couple of days because it was really had to work like that.
